2. TROPOMI-Derived NOX Emissions from Sea Shipping: Estimates Along Major Lanes and for Individual Vessels

  • Overview: This presentation introduces advanced atmospheric inverse modeling techniques developed within the EO4SEM project. By assimilating Sentinel-5P/TROPOMI $\text{NO}_2$ imagery and combining it with Automatic Identification System (AIS) tracking, the study demonstrates monthly $\text{NO}_x$ emission budgeting across European seas, flux-divergence modeling along major shipping lanes, and plume-detection methods capable of estimating instant $\text{NO}_x$ emissions from individual large vessels.
