Welcome to EO4SEM
EO for Ship Emissions Monitoring

What is EO4SEM

The project EO4SEM aims to advance towards the EO-driven monitoring of ship emissions, particularly GHGs such as CO2 and CH4 as well as air pollutants like NOx. The motivation comes from the need to improve our understanding of these emissions from ships and in view of new and future regulations within the European Union (EU) and at international level. EMSA supports the European Commission (EC) and the EU Member States with technical and technological means to guarantee a proper ship emission monitoring strategy as well as to verify that the regulations are properly applied and positively impacting at mid- and long-term the environment and life quality of the European citizens. The project will focus the attention on current (Sentinel-5P) and future (CHIME, CO2M) missions.

EO4SEM Geospatial Explorer

Geospatial Explorer (feature of APEX) which is a configurable web dashboard to display and visualize geospatial data. It is an interactive, cloud-based platform that enables users to visualize and analyze Earth Observation (EO) data alongside related geospatial information. It supports viewing EO imagery, derived products, and vector layers with control over transparency, ordering, and split-screen comparisons. Users can inspect data with tools for spatial queries, distance measurement, and interactive charts, while metadata access ensures transparency. Flexible and user-friendly, it integrates EO and non-EO data into custom dashboards for diverse audiences.

EO4SEM Data Catalogue

The APEx Product Catalogue service supports efficient geospatial data management by enabling the creation of SpatioTemporal Asset Catalogues (STAC).  These EO4SEM data catalogues simplify data organisation, search, and discovery, and integrate easily with existing tools and services, supporting both experimental and operational use cases. By using this service, your Earth observation project will have a solid foundation to become compliant with FAIR data principles
